Zoning - The location of the recreation area has been determined by the design method of zoning:
- With social connections being central to this project, the recreation area is located in the center of the grounds, within zone 2.
- They are nearby the campsites, encouraging frequent use by residents.
- They are also nearby the production area, allowing easy and efficient collection and cooking of meals.
Sectors - Natural patterns such as sun, wind and views, have influenced design details:
- Recreation area is located on the north/northwest side of the lake, subjecting it to cool, moist summer breezes from the south/southeast.
- Large oaks, maples and willows on the southern edge of facilities provide them with shade.
- Cooking area, restrooms and other structures are covered with cooling vines.
- Evergreen windbreaks block northerly winter winds.
- Beautiful views of the Appalachian valley to the southeast are unobstructed.
- Privacy screens of bamboo surround the restrooms.
